I visited Surabaya last year and was honestly surprised by how good the food was. My favorite dishes were Rawon, Rujak Cingur, and Lontong Balap. I also loved exploring small local eateries because they served authentic flavors at very reasonable prices. If you're visiting for the first time, don't just eat at popular restaurants try the neighborhood food stalls too. That's where I found some of the best meals during my trip.

@helenamoreira That's exactly what I was hoping to hear! I definitely want to explore local food stalls instead of only famous restaurants. Thanks for the recommendations I’ve added Rawon, Rujak Cingur, and Lontong Balap to my must-try list.

If you enjoy spicy food, Surabaya is an amazing destination. I highly recommend trying Penyetan with fried chicken or grilled fish served with fresh sambal. Don't miss Sate Klopo either the coconut coating gives it a unique flavor that you won't easily find in other Indonesian cities. The city is full of local specialties that are worth discovering.

@elifyilmaz Sate Klopo sounds really interesting! I love spicy food, so Penyetan is definitely going on my list too. Thanks for sharing these local recommendations!

One thing I really liked about Surabaya is that the food is affordable. Even with a limited budget, I was able to try many different local dishes in just a few days. I also found that many legendary restaurants have been operating for decades, so you get both authentic flavors and a bit of local history at the same time.

@siri_kanya_323 That's one of the reasons I'm excited to visit. Great food at affordable prices always makes a destination more enjoyable. I'll definitely look for some of those legendary restaurants.

Don't forget to try Surabaya's traditional desserts and drinks. Es Dawet, Es Campur, and various local snacks are perfect after eating spicy food. If you have enough time, visit traditional markets in the morning because you'll find many homemade specialties that locals eat every day.

@eduardo_saverin Great tip! I hadn't thought about visiting traditional markets. I'll make time for that because I'd love to experience the local food culture beyond restaurants.

I recommend spending at least two or three days in Surabaya if your main goal is food. Every area has different specialties, and you'll discover hidden gems just by asking local residents. The locals were very friendly and always happy to recommend their favorite places, which made my culinary experience even better.

@firman_330 I completely agree. Exploring with recommendations from locals usually leads to the best food experiences. Thanks for the advice I’ll plan a few extra days just for a culinary adventure in Surabaya! 🍜🇮🇩
