The 10 Tastings of Jakarta: Is This the Best Street Food Tour in Indonesia?
About This Discussion
I recently joined The 10 Tastings of Jakarta, and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the city's food culture beyond the usual tourist attractions.
The tour took me through hidden alleys, the lively streets of Blok M, and the historic Glodok Chinatown area. I got to try authentic Soto Betawi, Kerak Telor, and several traditional Indonesian snacks while learning the stories behind each neighborhood from the local guide. It felt like discovering a side of Jakarta that many visitors often miss.
The experience reminded me that everyone enjoys food tours differently. Some travelers love visiting iconic food spots, while others prefer discovering small local vendors hidden away from the crowds. That's what makes every food journey unique.
I'd love to hear about your favorite street food experiences or hidden local food gems. I'm always looking for new places to add to my next trip, so feel free to share your recommendations and stories!

I joined this tour a few months ago, and Glodok was definitely the highlight for me. Besides the food, I really enjoyed walking through the old streets and hearing the stories behind the neighborhood. The Soto Betawi was amazing, but I think the traditional market snacks were the biggest surprise. They were simple but incredibly delicious.
@ida_rt I completely agree! Glodok has such a unique atmosphere, and the local stories made the experience even more memorable. I also didn't expect the traditional snacks to be that good. I'll definitely go back to explore more food spots there.
I'm planning to visit Jakarta later this year, and this tour has been on my list for a while. I usually explore food places on my own, but joining a local guide sounds like a good way to discover hidden spots that aren't easy to find online. Hopefully the food stops are authentic and not too touristy.
@elifyilmaz That was exactly my impression. Most of the places felt very local, and I probably wouldn't have found them by myself. If you enjoy trying authentic food and learning a bit about the area's history, I think you'll have a great time.
Kerak Telor has always been my favorite Jakarta street food, but I still haven't tried it in Glodok or Blok M. Your post makes me want to compare different vendors because everyone says each place has its own flavor and style. That's one of the fun parts of food travel.
@garyshu I had the same thought! Even though it's the same dish, every vendor seems to have their own recipe. It would be fun to make a list of the best Kerak Telor spots recommended by LocallyTrip members.
One thing I love about food tours is that they introduce you to the history behind the dishes, not just the food itself. After learning where certain recipes came from, I appreciate the meal so much more. It makes the whole experience feel more meaningful.
@tengkusintya Exactly! I felt the same during this tour. Listening to the local guide explain the background of each neighborhood made every stop much more interesting than simply visiting a restaurant.
Jakarta has so many great food areas that it's hard to choose just one. I've explored Sabang, Kelapa Gading, and Pantai Indah Kapuk, but I still haven't joined a proper food tour. After reading this, I think it's something I should finally try on my next visit.
@eduardo_saverin There are still so many places on my list too. That's why I enjoy hearing recommendations from other travelers here. It's always nice to discover new local favorites that aren't widely known.
beberapa tahun yang lalu, nyoba kuliner bakmi loncat yang terkenal sampek di datangi artis Amah Taew di film How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. Selain makanannya, saya sangat menikmati berjalan-jalan di balik lingkungan Jakarta. Kerak Telornya luar biasa, tetapi menurut saya camilan pasar tradisional adalah kejutan terbesar. Sederhana namun sangat lezat.
Ouh iya lupa untuk kuliner bakmi loncat bukan buat kaum Muslim iya, tidak halall karena isiannya ada keripik Babi,Urat Babi dan lainnya.
