Chasing Light Beneath the Earth: A Journey Through Rangko & Batu Cermin
"Not all beauty lives under the sun. In Labuan Bajo, I found it hidden beneath stone where silence speaks, water glows, and light arrives like a quiet miracle."

Labuan Bajo is often told through its horizons Komodo islands, golden sunsets, endless sea.
But that day, I chose to go the other way.
Downward. Into the earth. Into the quiet.
Two caves. Two completely different feelings. One unforgettable journey.
Rangko Cave: Where Water Glows in Silence
The road to Rangko wasn’t smooth. A mix of boat ride and dusty paths led me there, but somehow, that made the arrival feel earned.
Inside, everything changed.
The cave opened into a hidden chamber, and there it was a pool so clear, so impossibly blue, it didn’t feel real. Sunlight slipped through a narrow opening above, touching the water just enough to make it glow like something alive.
I stepped in slowly.
Cold. Still. Sacred.
No noise. No rush. Just the quiet echo of water and stone. Floating there, I felt disconnected from everything outside like time had paused, just for this moment.
This wasn’t just a place to visit.
It was a place to feel small, in the best possible way.
Batu Cermin: When Light Finds Its Way
Batu Cermin was different.
Drier. Rougher. Almost hidden in plain sight.
From the outside, it didn’t look like much. But once inside, I understood why people call it the “Mirror Cave.”
At a certain hour, sunlight breaks through the rock, slicing into the darkness like a spotlight. It hits the cave walls, and suddenly, everything reflects fossils, textures, ancient coral embedded in stone.
This cave used to be underwater. You can feel it.
Standing there, watching the light bounce off ancient surfaces, I couldn’t help but think about time how something once buried beneath the sea now holds light inside it.
It felt quiet, but not empty.
More like… waiting.
Two Caves, Two Emotions
Rangko gave me stillness.
Batu Cermin gave me perspective.
One made me float. The other made me think.
And somewhere between the two, I realized something simple
Not all journeys are about going far.
Sometimes, you just need to go deeper.
