Planning a family trip to China and thinking about visiting a theme park? I’m currently comparing Universal Studios Beijing and Shanghai Disney Resort, especially from a budget + family experience perspective.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences 👇

💸 Budget Breakdown (Quick View)

Universal Studios Beijing

• Ticket: ~USD 60–100 (depends on season/day)

• Express Pass: quite expensive, but saves a lot of time

• Food inside: USD 10–20 per meal

• Overall: feels slightly more premium, especially with add-ons

Shanghai Disney Resort

• Ticket: ~USD 55–95

• Premier Access: optional, can be more flexible per ride

• Food: similar range, sometimes slightly cheaper options

• Overall: more budget-friendly if planned well

🎢 Family Experience

Universal Studios Beijing

• Strong on cinematic rides (Transformers, Harry Potter)

• Great for older kids & teens

• Immersive zones feel very “movie-like”

Shanghai Disney Resort

• More balanced for all ages (kids to adults)

• Iconic Disney magic + parades + castle experience

• More “relaxed” pacing for families with young children

⏳ Time & Strategy

Universal Studios

• Can feel crowded → Express Pass almost necessary

• Best strategy: arrive early + prioritize top rides

Shanghai Disney

• Bigger park but easier to pace

• App helps manage wait times and ride access

🤔 My Question to You

• Which one felt more worth it for a family trip on a budget?

• Is Express Pass in Universal really a must?

• For those traveling with kids, did Disney feel significantly better?

• Any tips to save money inside the parks?

Would love to hear real experiences before deciding 🙌

Yes! Especially with younger kids, Disney feels significantly better.

It’s more family friendly, less intense, and easier to enjoy without rushing. Universal is great, but better suited for older kids or teens.

@Eduardo Saverin That makes sense honestly. Disney really seems to focus more on the overall atmosphere and family experience, while Universal feels more attraction-driven and fast-paced. I can imagine younger kids enjoying Disney’s calmer and more magical vibe much more 😊
